What is often overlooked that will improve your search engine optimization a lot is the format of the title of your page.

For most webpages, this may be a static setting, but WordPress allows for customization of the page title because each page is built dynamically.

So, on individual article pages, you can have your page title follow the format:

Post Name

This is extremely helpful, as most search engines show your page title as the heading for their search results. If you’re displaying the most relevant information as your page title, it’s far more that the searcher will click through to your blog post.

To add this simple optimization technique to your WordPress blog, you simply need to edit the header.php file where the page title is being built in most themes.

If you cannot find it there you may need to check the documentation for your blog theme.

There is also a gold mine of information on how to customize your blog on the Wordpress Codex.
